FOIL G • Four-in-One Protection
One Layer, Multiple Functions
Slip-Plane Effect
The mica layer acts as a slip plane between the coil grout and refractory. It allows controlled movement during thermal cycling and ensures clean separation during refractory removal.
Safety-Layer
Foil G forms a mechanical barrier that protects the induction coil and grout from direct contact with sintered refractory reducing wear and structural stress.
Separating-Layer
The dense, layered structure of Foil G acts as a gas diffusion barrier, limiting the penetration of process vapors and fine particles into the wall.
Insulation-Layer
With high dielectric strength and low thermal conductivity, Foil G provides effective electrical and thermal insulation in high-temperature furnace environments.

Why Use A Mica Slip Plane
Application of a Mica Slip Plane

Newform Foil G is a flexible, cold-formable mica foil, glass fiber reinforced for enhanced mechanical strength, designed for use in coreless induction coil furnaces. It is applied as a slip-plane between compacted refractory material and the coil grout. It is used in small to mid-sized furnaces (<2Ton).
Foil G is composed of phlogopite and/or muscovite mica, reinforced with a glass fiber matrix, and is asbestos-free, non-toxic and biodegradable. The material is suitable for operating temperatures up to 1,100°C, although a maximum of 300°C is expected at its position. Foil G delivers stable performance under thermal and mechanical stress.
Foil G comes in rolls; 25m long, 1m wide and a thickness of 0.4mm ± 0.05mm. Its technical characteristics include thermal conductivity of 0.5W/mK at 400°C, dielectric strength of 20kV/mm (IEC 243), and tracking resistance KA 3c (VDE 0303/1).
Installation is straightforward: the foil is cut to hight, and wrapped on top around the coil grout. It is fixed in place (top only required) using halogen-free glue or scotch tape. The material flexibility and tear resistance make it ideal for curved surfaces and tight furnace geometries.
Foil G offers multiple functional benefits: it acts mainly as a slip plane during removeal of the used refractory mterial. It further serves as a gas diffusion barrier and is preferably used in furnaces smaller than 2ton.
STEP 1
Surface Cleaning & Preparation
Scratch of residual sticking materials from the coil grout. The flexible mica roll laminate adapts to small surface irregularities - no preheating, grinding, or special surface treatment required.
STEP 2
Cutting & Positioning
Cut Foil G to furnace height with slight (10-20cm) overlapping for proper fixing at top. Mount the sheet vertically on the coil grout. The mica side of the biodegradable insulation must face outward where the (later sintered) ramming mass will be.
STEP 3
Secure Fixing
Fix the top edge using watery, halogen-free glue or scotch tape. Ensure full surface contact to prevent shifting during refractory installation.
STEP 4
Refractory Installation
Install and compact the ramming mass between placed metal crucible and the mica insulation along the coil grout. The mica slip-plane effect allows clean separation of refractory during installation protects the coil grout, and extends furnace service life.
